No "BUTTS" About It; Clothes Made From Cigarette Butts

It's different ... but ecological.
Fashion from a cigarette butt.  Who'd have thunk it???  New Chilean fashion designer, Alexandra Guerro, has managed to create beautiful upcycled wears from wool and discarded cancer sticks.  It's true.  Every one of her garments possess 10% of purified cigareete butts and 90% natural sheep wool.

Guerrero says; "This project began as an idea for my thesis.  We always wanted to do sustainable design but we didn't want to do something that was already seen, so we started thinking of a waste that was unnoticed and then we thought of cigarette butts."   And, after seeing the positive results and large interest generated, Alexandra decided to turn the project into a business. For now, the clothes, can only be purchased through email, at Prices range from $50 for a beret, $125 for the adorable sweater and, our favorite, $110 for a dress.

Get Bettie Page Hair Easy .. Try the Hairfree brush!

When one thinks of the "classic pinup" few names come to mind faster than Bettie Page. A raven haired beauty and icon of the 50s, she was best known for her trademark hairstyle, bangs, blue eyes and uninhibited relationship with the camera. Bettie's hairstyle is one that women are emulating. Want the look? Here is how:
Be prepared to color your hair for the full "Bettie homage" look; unless your hair is already dark brown or black. Of course you can still the "the style" without dying your hair but it wouldn't be the Bettie Page look without going dark. Have your bangs cut short. The bangs should be equal length across the entire forehead. The bangs need only be long enough to work with rollers or a curling iron. Keep the hair (except the bangs) long, coming past the shoulders at least. Tame the hair into big, soft curls. If your hair is naturally curly, try a relaxing product. Blow dry the hair with a diffuser and a round brush to achieve the big cur…

In Pursuit of My Inner Pinup ... Fabulous Blog Read ...

Came across a fabulous blog today ... have to share.

Check out: In Pursuit of My Inner Pinup! A journal of a woman losing weight; finding herself and becoming her best "you." Fun facts, pictures, ideas and tips. A well written fun read! I love her Cat Diet -- so I'm going to share from her site!  (P.S.  ... Not sure if anyone can ever look as great as Julie Newmar ... but one can try : )  )

Cat Miracle Diet

Most diets fail because we stubbornly continue to think and eat like humans. For those us who have never had any success dieting there is the new Miracle Cat Diet! Except for cats that eat like people -- such as getting lots of table scraps -- most cats are long and lean (or tiny and petite). The Cat Miracle Diet will help you achieve the same lean, svelte figure as a cat. Just follow this diet for one week and you'll find that you not only look and feel better, but you will have a whole new outlook on what constitutes food. Good Luck!

The Ponytail : High, Low, Wavy and Perky. Versatile and Timeless. Sport one yourself!

Nothing says the fifties any more than the classic ponytail; which has never gone out of style.  It works for toddlers who can't comb their own hair; all the way up to the age of senior citizen (who still sometimes, can't comb their own hair.)  Perfect if you want to keep the hair out of your eyes; perfect if you are a no muss kind of gal and perfect if it's hot and you want your hair off your neck.  Also, perfect for jeans and a top, or even an elegant evening.    It's a versatile style that can be dressed up with makeup and hair accessories and still look great with a plain rubber band.  Although you should probably save your hair by using Elastic Snag Free  hair bands.
If you've watched any awards show this season or picked up a fashion magazine, you've seen that everyone seens to be  sporting: ponytails!   Think about it; Lucille Ball wore a pony tail quite frequently, Tony Little (exercise guru) sports one, and heck, even Barbie has sported one since the fi…

Seams Easy .... Seamed Stockings

This is a fabulous retro picture. Puts a new spin on "seamed stockings" doesn't it? 40s popular option was to apply makeup to the leg, a tedious procedure that could include painting a black line up the back of the leg to complete the illusion.

Is This Wild or What? Pavillion Made from 200 Recycled Speedo's

All images via

This amazing pavilion designed by students at Chelsea College of Art & Design has been on show during the London Festival of Architecture for the last couple of weeks. It is made from the unlikeliest of materials, Speedo swimsuits.  What a fantastic example of the design possibilities that can be found in the upcycling process.

Sustainable Design Brief

The pavilion' is the result of a collaborative project between Chelsea College of Art & Design and the famous Speedo swimwear brand, which asked students to look at issues of sustainability, production and use of materials.  Redundant Swimsuits

Students on Chelsea's Platform 2 were given 600 'LZR racer' swimming suits to find an appropriate use for. Why the LZR racer? And why so many? Well due to recent changes in swimming competition rules this incredibly hi-tech piece of sportswear was made redundant leaving Speedo with hundreds of swimsuits they could no longer sell.

The Kitchen Linens Book ... Excellent Vintage Embroidery Patterns

I bought this fabulous book ... No I don't sew, crochet, cross stitch or embroider ... but I think I'm going to.  Saw this, thumbed through it ... and I had to have it.  The Kitchen Linens Book: Using, Sharing, and Cherishing the Fabrics of Our Daily Lives by EllynAnne Geisel.
This is a book after my own heart. What could be better than great vintage table linens? For me, the answer is not much! These are truly adorable patterns that remind my of the pillowcases and hand towels in my closet that my grandmother made me.  Not only does this book stir up memories, but it makes you want to create memories too!
Here is a fabulous book review by Kelly from Modern June. "EllynAnne knows her table linens; she has spent years collecting– she sees each piece as a memory. The Kitchen Linens Book covers them all, from humble workhorses like pot-holders, trivets, and towels, to casual dining linens for picnics and tailgate parties, to more elegant linens for gatherings like garden partie…

Coffee Tables and Desks Made From Vintage Car and Truck Hoods

Found ... the perfect gift for that Kool Cat Guy you love so much!  Father's day is coming and if you actually need a holiday ... you can wait for a birthday or Christmas; but, this is a great dream gift for someone who is into cars, hot rods, trucks or just loves the sounds of  an engine.  For the record, I would totally love a Kasey Kahne hood even if it is a new car model!  (Hope you read my blog Kasey!)

The typical car and truck hoods of yesteryear used to be made from a massive sheet of formed steel  because they had to cover those massive engines and massive trunks.  And yes, those days are gone.  But enter Joel Hester, whose Dallas-based  business Weld House scrounges through scrap yards and turns what most would deem as junk hoods into amazing steel tables, beds, desks and art.

Hester's coffee and end tables start at $700 (check out his gallery on Flickr). Working with car hoods and trunks ravaged by sun, weather, and even custom paint jobs, Hester and his torch-happy … - Pure Genius ... Never Sit on Hold Again!

How LucyPhone Works:

Lucy will call you first then "patch" you through to the company.

Use the company's phone menu just as you normally would. Get put on hold? Press ** and your phone will be disconnected but Lucy will stay on the line.

Once a live agent is on the line, Lucy will call you back immediately and connect you both. Get put on hold again, just press ** again!

Probably one of the best new computer ideas this year!

Bon Appetite Hon

Another cool thing to come out of Bawlmore is the famous "Baltimore Bomb Pie" featured on the Food Networks" "The Best Thing I Ever Ate."   Also favored by Charm City Cakes Duff Goldman, the pie has become somewhat famous.  You can buy it online at Dangerously Delicious Pies, or try to make one yourself.  In searching for a recipe, I came across to great sites that come very close to mimicking it.  Check out My Man's Belly and Chris and Ashton's Blog.  below is the recipe from My Man's Belly.

Use your own favorite Pie Crust recipe, or if you hate rolling out pastry (like me) ... Just go buy one of those Pet Ritz froze pie shells  : )  What's important here is the filling : )

So Sweet ... Marilyn Monore Portrait Made Out of Candy

Candy is dandy when it looks like this.  This Marilyn Monroe portrait is too sweet to miss. The portrait made entirely of candy can soon be admired in the lobby of the “Ripley’s Believe It or Not!” Odditorium in Orlando.
Enrique Ramos of Mexico City, is the candy artist who has made similar sugary portraits of Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson for other Ripley’s outlets around the country.
The tasty portraits are made out of candy hearts, after dinner mints, licorice, Fruit by the Foot, and more.

Lady in the Water - 1947

Fabulous vintage photo. A model floating in the water at Weeki Wachee Spring, Florida. The image by fashion photographer Toni Frissell was published in Harper's Bazaar in December 1947. New photo for me, but it has been used evidently for book covers and album covers over the years.
